Throughout 2022, we shared stories about the latest in our construction business, our awards and milestones, as well as news related to our mission. Here’s our complete list of First Balfour’s Most Read Stories of 2022:
New contracts awarded
In 2022, First Balfour won a number of projects including an EPC contract for the Tanawon Geothermal Power Plant in Sorsogon City, the St. Luke’s Medical Center Quezon City (SLMC-QC) Pivot Building project, and the civil works subcontract for the Batangas Combined Cycle Power Plant in Batangas City.
Our groundbreaking projects continue to reap awards both locally and internationally. In June, the Novaliches-Balara Aqueduct 4 (NBAQ4) Project was hailed as the overall winner in the 2nd Philippine Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards (PECCA) beating six other construction projects in the country. In November, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) Project also won first place in the infrastructure category of the Premio Obras CEMEX 2022 (CEMEX Building Award 2022) held in Mexico City. CCLEX was among the 26 international finalists from 10 other countries.
Living the mission
In an aim to deliver on its mission, First Balfour has also gone through great lengths the past year to embed the mission across its operations starting with the formalization of a Technical Working Group (TWG) for Sustainability. Tasked to strengthen our systems in capturing and analyzing environmental, social, governance (ESG) data, the TWG also takes the lead in First Balfour’s mission-related activities.
Among these activities involve forging partnerships including that with the Council for Inclusive Capitalism thru President and Chief Operating Officer Anthony Fernandez and social enterprise The Plastic Flamingo. In December, First Balfour also organized a face-to-face Vendors Forum in an aim to widen its influence in its supply chain and explore measures to address the climate crisis.
In 2022, we also began writing about the company’s Priority SDGs starting with our pilot issue on SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
The power to move with T1 Transport
In early March, we also shared about the rebranding of our heavy equipment transport business Therma One Transport into T1 Transport. This strategic rebranding forms part of its growth and expansion to sustainable people transport through electric vehicles and maritime transport. Aside from this rebranding, we also wrote about its new heavy goods vehicle (HGV) simulator and how it uses telematics to boost service delivery—still part of the business unit’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact.
