The project management team (PMT) of the Palayan Binary Power Plant Project in Manito, Albay received its Safety Seal from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), among the first five construction projects to receive such in the whole Bicol region, in an awarding ceremony held yesterday in Old Albay District, Legazpi City.
The project site, which involves three separate work packages including the Balance of Plant (BOP), Fluid Collection Reinjection System (FCRS), and Connection Assets (CA), was inspected last 19 November 2021 against the checklist and sector-specific guidelines issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID). Project Manager Alfredo S. Maninang, Jr. shares, “Audit findings show that our health and safety protocols, particularly those related to managing COVID-19 in the workplace, exceed the minimum standard requirements of their Safety Seal criteria.”
The Safety Seal Certification is a voluntary certification scheme that affirms that an establishment is compliant with the minimum public health standards set by the government and uses or integrates its contact tracing with StaySafe.ph. DOLE issues the seal to manufacturing, construction sites, utilities, information and communication companies, and warehouses. Aside from Palayan, our projects in Cebu and Burgos have been awarded the same Safety Seal in June and October of this year respectively.
The project team has also achieved a safety milestone marking one million safe man hours without lost time incident, as announced by Project Safety Officer Ralph Lee on 23 November 2021. “On behalf of our PMT, our client Energy Development Corporation, and subcontractors, we are pleased to inform you that our project reached a milestone achieving 1,000,452 safe man hours without lost time incident,” he shared.
Taking pride in leading a team composed of almost 800 staff and workers, Maninang shares, “I am incredibly proud of each member of our project team for upholding and living First Balfour’s safety culture. With the full support from our counterparts EDC and Bacman Geothermal, Inc., we were able to reach this significant milestone for the entire project.”
Located in the municipality of Manito in Albay, the Palayan Binary Power Plant will boost the overall power generation capacity of the existing Bacman Conventional Geothermal Plant which currently generates 120 MW equivalent steam capacity.
