First Balfour played a key role in the development and construction of the 22-megawatt Tanawon Geothermal Power Plant in Sorsogon, executed under contract with Energy Development Corporation (EDC). Officially inaugurated on August 1, 2025, the project marks a significant milestone in the Philippines’ pursuit of a greener, sustainable energy future.
Awarded the Balance of Plant (BOP), Connection Asset (CA) work packages in 2022, First Balfour’s scope expanded in 2023 to include the Fluid Collection and Reinjection System (FCRS). At peak, the project mobilized over 1,000 workers and recorded more than 3.8 million safe man-hours without any lost time incidents (LTI).
The project’s outstanding execution and safety standards earned multiple industry recognitions, including Bronze Awards for both the BOP and CA packages at the 19th DOE–SHAPES Conference and an Award of Merit from the Safety Organization of the Philippines, Inc. (SOPI) for the BOP package.
The Tanawon facility contributes to the country’s renewable energy targets and supports the Philippine Energy Plan’s goal of achieving a 50% renewable energy share by 2040.
Capacity: 22MW
