First Balfour secured the contracts for the 28.9 MW Palayan Binary Plant Balance of Plant (BOP) Works, Fluid Collection Reinjection System (FCRS) Works, and Connection Assets (CA) Works Packages. Awarded by Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the projects are located in the municipality of Manito in Albay.
The BOP works package contract covers the installation of equipment necessary to generate energy using the residual brine flow from the existing EDC steam field. It includes EPC works for the civil, structural, and electromechanical works to complete the Binary Power Plant. The plant boosts the overall power generation capacity of the existing Bacman Conventional Geothermal Power Plant which currently generates 120 MW equivalent steam capacity. Two more related work packages namely the FCRS transports the steam from the existing EDC facility to this Binary Plant and the CA Works Package connects the plant to the electricity grid.
These projects are EDC’s response to the call of the national government to accelerate the exploration and development of renewable energy resources in the country and are solid steps toward the realization of the First Philippine Holdings’ new mission-purpose: to forge collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future.
