The project involved the design, geological investigation, installation, testing and commissioning of a 13km natural gas pipeline of 16 inches diameter from the Shell Malampaya’s natural gas receiving facility in Tabangao, Batangas, passing through a mountainous area to the 1200MW Ilijan Natural Gas Combined Cycle Power Plant in Ilijan, Batangas.
The main scope included installation of the pipeline including a river crossing at Tabangao River, installation of the launcher and the receiver scraper stations and all associated mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and civil site works. It also included supply and installation of SCADA and telecommunications system. The project was implemented by First Balfour in joint venture with NACAP Nederland BV and was cited by National Power Corporation (NPC) as one of its best implemented projects.
