29 MW binary plant with Organic Rankine Cycle system
First Balfour has secured the contracts for the 29 MW Palayan Binary Plant Balance of Plant (BOP) Works, Fluid Collection Reinjection System (FCRS) Works, and Connection Assets (CA) Works Packages. Awarded by Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the new projects are located in the municipality of Manito in Albay.
The BOP works package contract covers the installation of equipment necessary to generate energy using the residual brine flow from the existing EDC steam field. It includes EPC works for the civil, structural, and electromechanical works to complete the Binary Power Plant. Upon project completion in 2022, the plant will boost the overall power generation capacity of the existing Bacman Conventional Geothermal Power Plant which currently generates 120 MW equivalent steam capacity.
Two more related work packages are ongoing namely the FCRS which will transport the steam from the existing EDC facility to this Binary Plant and the CA Works Package which will connect the plant to the electricity grid.
These new projects are EDC’s response to the call of the national government to accelerate the exploration and development of renewable energy resources in the country and are solid steps toward the realization of the First Philippine Holdings’ new mission-purpose: to forge collaborative pathways for a decarbonized and regenerative future.
