First Balfour was the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the 43-kilometer transmission line project connecting the Burgos Wind Farm and Burgos substation to the Laoag Substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

Passing through the municipalities of Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra and Laoag, the project consisted of 15 steel poles erected in Kapurpurawan, 5 steel poles erected inside the NGCP compound, and 128 steel towers erected on a trail from Burgos to Laoag City. Power from the Burgos substation is sent to NGCP’s Laoag substation via a 115-kV single-circuit overhead transmission line.

Aside from detailed engineering design, construction, and installation, First Balfour handled the procurement of major materials from various suppliers and manufactures around the world e.g. Saudi Arabia for the steel towers, China for the steel poles, Bahrain for the conductors and ground wire, Korea for the OPG and USA for the insulators.

The project was completed on schedule in August 2014.
