With 292 employee volunteers and 13 sites, we participated in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (@denrofficial) initiative across the Philippines. Over 900 kilos of waste comprising of plastic bottles, styrofoam, slippers, hangers, food wrappers, grocery bags, etc., were collected from Metro Manila, Albay, Batangas, Ilocos Norte, Laguna, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, North Cotabato, Sorsogon, and Zambales. First Balfour in partnership with Rural Rising Philippines (RuRi) has successfully organized a private Box-All-You-Can (BAYC) event last week, 15 July 2022, at the First Balfour Head Office in Sucat, Paranaque City. Over a hundred employees joined BAYC taking with them a total of 306 boxes worth PhP 183,600 in an effort to extend help and support to our Pinoy farmers. Founders Ace and Andie Estrada of Baguio City shared that RuRi was born during the coronavirus pandemic. “In May 2020, we went to the Baguio City Market and nakita namin ang mga farmers doon ipinamimigay ang gulay dahil hindi sila nakakabenta. Pumunta kami sa outskirts ng Baguio, punong-puno ng gulay na itinatapon sa bangin. We found out there was a problem.” He shared they wrote about it on Facebook and as it went viral, more and more people wanted to help. Now a full-fledged non-profit grassroots collective, RuRi has already moved millions of vegetables by doing rescue buys in areas where there is an over-production of vegetables. With 292 employee volunteers and 13 sites, we participated in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (@denrofficial) initiative across the Philippines. Over 900 kilos of waste comprising of plastic bottles, styrofoam, slippers, hangers, food wrappers, grocery bags, etc., were collected from Metro Manila, Albay, Batangas, Ilocos Norte, Laguna, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, North Cotabato, Sorsogon, and Zambales. Situated in more than 600 hectares of challenging mountainous terrain covering Barangays Saoit, Poblacion and Nagsurot in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, the wind farm now generates about 370 gigawatt-hours of energy and avoids an estimated 200,000 tons of carbon emissions annually. The project included 13.6 kilometers of access roads and 50 concrete foundation structures for 50 Vestas V90 wind turbines with a rated capacity of 3MW each. Approximately 630 cubic meters of concrete was used for the construction of foundations for each wind turbine tower. Each wind turbine rests on a tubular steel tower that has a 75 meter hub height and a 90 meter rotor diameter which offers a swept area of 6,326 square meters. First Balfour also installed 120 kilometers of electrical cabling and a Yaw Back-up Generation System that comprised 3 units of 1.5 MW of back-up power. The back-up generation system is to ensure that in the event of a power failure, the yaw mechanism will be used to turn the wind turbine rotor against the wind. The whole project was commissioned on time in November 2014 and won the feed-in tariff (FIT) race ahead of the nearest rival by nine days. Aside from receiving citations from the City and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices for its reinstatement efforts, the project was also awarded by the Project Finance International (PFI) with a global award named Asia-Pacific Renewables Deal of the Year (2014). #wind #windfarm

First Balfour was the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the 43-kilometer transmission line project connecting the Burgos Wind Farm and Burgos substation to the Laoag Substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). Passing through the municipalities of Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra and Laoag, the project consisted of 15 steel poles erected in Kapurpurawan, 5 steel poles erected inside the NGCP compound, and 128 steel towers erected on a trail from Burgos to Laoag City. Power from the Burgos substation is sent to NGCP’s Laoag substation via a 115-kV single-circuit overhead transmission line. Aside from detailed engineering design, construction, and installation, First Balfour handled the procurement of major materials from various suppliers and manufactures around the world e.g. Saudi Arabia for the steel towers, China for the steel poles, Bahrain for the conductors and ground wire, Korea for the OPG and USA for the insulators. First Balfour, in a joint venture (JV) with DMCI, was the first local contractor to be awarded with a design and build contract for the 5.5-kilometer LRT Line 1 North Extension project. The extension connects the existing LRT Line 1 and MRT-3 by constructing an elevated viaduct from the Monumento Station of Line 1 to the North Avenue Station of Line 3 with new intermediate stations and one terminal station. The project involved the civil and architectural design and construction of the guide ways and stations of the LRT 1 Extension. This included the construction of a 2.66-kilometer elevated guide way from Monumento to Balintawak including the construction of a pedestrian overpass and walkways, the construction of a 2.74-kilometer guide way that spans from the Balintawak to the North Avenue station, and the construction of 2 elevated stations in Balintawak and Monumento.
