Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), commonly known as drones, are beginning to take on much larger roles for commercial use across a range of industries – in security, aerial photography, film and TV production, and even courier services. Recognizing the importance of surveying and documenting the progress of its projects, First Balfour recently purchased DJI S800 EVO, a hex-rotor UAV primarily designed for professional aerial photography.
The S800 EVO has a retractable landing gear, foldable propellers, and a collapsible GPS bracket thus enabling good portability. Its high-performance vibration absorber kit and auto-pilot system enable the UAV to get to hard-to-reach areas and steadily hover and cruise to capture high-quality photos and videos using the GoPro Hero 3+ mounted on it.
“We use the photos and videos that the drone captures in almost all of our reports and communication materials in all our offices. Unlike years ago, we no longer have to rent a helicopter for aerial photo shoots,” shares Corporate Communications Head Vicente M. de Lima II.
To date, First Balfour’s camera-equipped drone has reached most of the company’s ongoing projects from the Burgos Wind Farm project in Ilocos Norte down to its geothermal power projects in Leyte and Dumaguete.
