Roots in Boots

To help boost awareness on proper waste management as well as combat deforestation, the Environment, Safety, and Health (ESH) Team of the NJ3RD Access Road & Pad Development Project launched Roots on Boots as part of their Waste Minimization Program. Damaged and used safety boots were recycled as temporary nursing pots for seedlings given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-CENRO) in Dumaguete City.

After weeks of nurturing over 150 seedlings, the first Tree Planting Activity started last March 11 on a slope in Puhagan just above the ongoing Access Road site. The event was participated by the First Balfour Northern Island Geothermal Business Unit (NIGBU) Cluster Project Management Team and workers, Energy Development Corporation (EDC) – Construction Division’s Dennis Casas and Larry Macay, and EDC –Watershed Management Department’s Ramon Arong and Aubrey Bangaysiso.
